The w980 is what we have given to my father this Christmas and the sound quality is true, but most of all because it takes real good headphones (HPM 77).
I've been looking at the specifications on the Sony Ericcson hlr and sound just seem evenly matched, the internal memory is lost and only has 100mb, but can be expanded with a memory stick micro m2 up to 16GB ... I hope the w508 is cheaper hehe
